What is a body surfing handplane?

A body surfing handplane, otherwise known as a handboard, or hand surfer, is a planing device that is worn on the lead hand of a body surfer. It enhances the body surfing experience by generating lift and reducing drag. This allows the body surfer to surf faster and ride the wave for longer. For more FAQs click here

How does a body surfing handplane work?

As the body surfer swims for a wave, the handplane, usually on the lead hand, is planted on the waters surface, it then begins to aqua plane. This allows the body surfer to apply downward pressure and thus create lift. This lift dramatically reduces the surfers drag allowing them to catch the wave easier, ride it faster, longer and with way more control.

Once riding the wave, the handplanes offers increased control by offering a rail edge that can be used to cut into the waves face, as well as suction created by the concave, to enable the bodysurfer to keep the desired 'highline' for more speed.
